The Old Mill House was once a working mill, now beautifully converted into a detached riverside cottage, retaining some of the original features. It enjoys a peaceful, secluded location, 200 yards from the River Taw on the edge of the village of Umberleigh, in the beautiful Taw Valley.
Old Mill House has a large double aspect sitting room overlooking the large garden, with a wood burner in the alcove for cosy evenings beside the fire. From the hall you can walk out on to a patio area complete with garden furniture and a gas barbeque.
Also on the ground floor is a double bedroom with en-suite shower and WC, and a twin bedroom with separate shower and WC.
The kitchen/dining area is upstairs with a fully fitted kitchen including integrated fridge and dishwasher, ceramic hob, electric oven/grill. There is a seating area and a second TV with views to the river and across the wooded valley.
There is a second double bedroom upstairs, which has views over the enclosed back garden. This has a separate bathroom and shower room.
The Taw is about two hundred yards away and is reached by crossing the railway branch line. We have 2.5 miles of fishing which is looked after by Ivan Huxtable.
If you wish to fish, Ivan can be contacted through us. We cannot guarantee there will be space unless you have pre booked with Ivan, as rod numbers are strictly controlled. There is no public right of way to walk beside the river, although if guests wish to walk the banks they are unlikely to meet with objections, provided that livestock is not disturbed and any dogs are kept on leads. If you are not fishing, please be beware of the backcast of fly fishermen and respect the peace and tranquility of the Taw.
Care should be taken with children with regard to the Taw, mill stream and the railway line.
On arrival you will find a welcome pack containing locally produced essentials and goodies including a bottle of wine in the fridge.
There is Digital TV, DVD player and separate CD player.
You can arrange for groceries to be delivered to the cottages from the Barnstaple branch of Tesco or Sainsburys.
We do allow one dog by prior arrangement, but must be notified when booking. We do ask that they stay off carpeted areas and the furniture. There is a charge of £25 for a dog.
There is enough off road parking for two vehicles.
Our prices are inclusive; there are NO extras for logs (where applicable), linen, heating, etc.
